A Constitutional Amendment
Revise the current functions policy for SGA representatives
Purpose: To amend the current constitution to allow for the revision of the SGA function policy each year according to the SGA’s calendar of events.
Whereas: Currently the function policy requires the SGA representatives to work three SGA events per semester in addition to ALAHAMBRA as well as one SGA sponsored service event per semester.
Be it enacted by the Medical University of South Carolina Student Government Association assembled in regular session the following:
That the Medical University of South Carolina Student Government Association Constitution be altered to read as follows. The SGA executive committee will review the number of SGA events and service events planned for the year and accordingly determine the function requirements.
Article II, Section 8 reads: Student Government members are required to work at three functions per semester and to participate in the planning and execution of ALHAMBRA. One of the three required functions must include a clean-up detail. In addition, participation in one SGA-sponsored service project per semester is required.
Let the section be amended to read: Student Government members are required to work a predetermined number of SGA events. One of the required work events must include a clean-up detail. In addition, representatives will be required to participate in a predetermined number of SGA-sponsored service projects per semester. The requirements will be determined by the executive committee during the summer planning session according to the number of representatives and the number of events planned. Representatives will be required to work no more than five total events per semester. The executive committee reserves the right to make any event mandatory. These requirements will be written into an Oath of understanding and will be signed by each representative.
