Sheldon Bates (CODM) President As students in our particular context we have the opportunity, the ability and the responsibility to affect change on a number of levels for our mutual benefit and advancement, particularly at this University. As such, the student body must have an experienced leader to champion the ideas and concerns which originate with the individual students. As I served as SGA President this year, the SGA has, among other things, advocated for improvement of interprofessional initiatives, obtained 550 parking spaces in the Bee Street Garage, initiated an open forum for student concerns, and conveyed student concerns to the State Legislature. As President, I have invested in developing relationships with administrators and board members because these connections are springboards for cooperation and advancement. Having developed these relationships, the momentum that we have built during the 2008-2009 academic year will continue into next year as we face new challenges and pave the way for further change. If elected as SGA President for the 2009-2010 academic year, I will continue to push for the eradication of smoking from our campus, continue the MUSC SGA presence at the State House and implement ideas arising from students. The SGA will also continue to bring you innovative and record-breaking extracurricular events like we have seen this year. I have demonstrated a high level of commitment to the SGA this year, which will indeed carry over to next year as we engage the challenges ahead giving us the opportunities to excel and progress beyond our expectations. | Andrea Boan (COGS) Programs VP Hello again! I want to thank you for having given me the opportunity to serve as your SGA Programs VP this past year. During this year we have worked hard to augment new ideas and to enhance the quality of SGA events for the students. The SGA Oyster Roast was one of the largest, most successful events in SGA history and I plan to set the bar even higher for next year by incorporating your comments and suggestions to continue to enrich the value of these events. During the past four years I have had the privilege of working with the Student Programs Office and have built a strong relationship with them. We made every effort this year to improve the cultural events that we offer, and have successfully increased the awareness, attendance and enthusiasm for the cultural programs. One of the many things that I have learned along this journey is that I have a passion for organizing events and activities for others. I am an active participant on numerous university committees and volunteer programs that have helped me gain the knowledge and confidence to be a successful leader for this student body. I care about what the students want and I will continue to represent your needs and requests. I am truly dedicated to this position and I assure you that I will work exceptionally hard to make this coming year one of the most exciting and successful years yet! I hope you all join us for Alhambra! I would greatly appreciate your vote on March 25th and 26th! Thank you for your support!
| Tyler Pierce (COM) Academic VP Because I have had the honor of serving MUSC in this position for the past year, I feel confident that I would be able to serve MUSC as the SGA VP of Academic Affairs. I gained an incredible amount of experience chairing the University Honor Council. While in this position, I worked tirelessly to enhance and promote MUSC’s honor code, as well as bring all 6 colleges under the same honor code once again. I have had the distinct pleasure of working with the library staff to enhance even further the learning experience for every student. This past summer I was successful in helping acquire free printing for the student body as well as maintaining the carrel system that is currently in place. It is my hope that we can expand and continue to improve upon the systems already in place. One of the most important reasons I am running again is because I believe that continuity is irreplaceable. Having served as the Academic VP I have a firm grasp on where we have been and where we are going. There is still work that needs to be done, and I hope to have the chance to serve the students again in this capacity. | Meg Croom (COP) Secretary Hello student body! As an MUSC student, I have had the opportunity to interact with aspiring health professionals from all six colleges. I have been involved with Student Government since elementary school, and most recently I served on the Judicial Branch during my undergraduate career. As a first year pharmacy student, I have had the privilege of serving as my class’s vice president. I firmly believe that my past leadership experiences will be a great asset to our student body and that I will be able to bring many new ideas to our University’s Student Government. As secretary, it will be my responsibility to maintain organization in both SGA and around campus. I will also continue to ensure communication between the SGA, students, and MUSC as a whole. I believe my talents, dedication, and organization will allow me to fulfill the challenges of this position. I am looking forward to working with other representatives of SGA to better our University. I am excited to serve as secretary and to continue to inspire an interprofessional relationship between the colleges. I would appreciate your support on March 25th and 26th. Thank you! | John Brandt (COM) Treasurer MUSC is a wonderful place to learn and grow as future health care professionals. I know that all of you are as proud as I am to be a part of this institution. I come to you now at the time of the elections for the SGA executive officers for the 2009-2010 academic year because I want to do everything in my power to improve upon our experience here in Charleston. I have served this year as an SGA representative from the College of Medicine and have learned a great deal about MUSC. While you might not see everything the SGA does on and off campus, I can assure you that this organization is working diligently to serve the student body in any and all ways necessary. I promise you that I will do my part in carrying on this tradition if elected Treasurer this year. The SGA has a track record of financial responsibility and staying within budget year after year. I want to continue this trend while making sure that the SGA uses all its resources in the most efficient ways possible. I’m sure that all of you know and understand the importance of giving back to the community that we serve. As chair of the Service Committee, I will make sure that the SGA provides an array of quality service opportunities for not only SGA members but the entire student body. I really appreciate your consideration and hope you remember me when voting for SGA Treasurer. |
