Division of General Surgery

The Division of General Surgery delivers compassionate care to patients with surgical disorders, acute illness and injury through a multidisciplinary team committed to excellence. Our dedicated team of surgeons and researchers advance the science and the treatment of our patients and their diseases, while working to decrease the burden of injury and surgical disease through prevention, outreach and education.

  • As a Level I trauma center, we received the highest national recognition for trauma centers through the American College of Surgeons. We are the only hospital in South Carolina with this recognition.
  • Our trauma team is staffed around the clock, led by a trauma surgeon with board certification in both surgery and surgical critical care.
  • Our surgeons are Board Certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.  As a result, they provide general surgical expertise to patients whom are felt to be “too challenging” for other centers.
  • Our surgeons perform complex hernia repairs, laparoscopic operations, and chest wall reconstructions.

It’s our sincere hope that you never require treatment for a traumatic injury or illness. Through our research, community outreach programs, and injury prevention activities, we’re working hard to reduce the number of trauma patients in our area, helping residents and visitors live longer, healthier lives.

Meet our faculty and learn about their areas of expertise.
