Division of GI & Laparoscopic Surgery

The Division of GI and Laparoscopic Surgery provides the finest in patient care offering a full range of GI and Laparoscopic surgical procedures and is recognized for its clinical and basic science research.

At MUSC, we specialize in the latest techniques requiring the most advanced skill sets.

  • Our hepatopancreatobiliary team works in close collaboration with the medical oncology team at the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, a national leader in cancers of the digestive system, including the colon, pancreas, liver, stomach, biliary tree and rectum.
  • Our surgeons participate in ongoing research programs to expand the depth of GI, Laparoscopic and Robotic knowledge throughout the nation and continually improve techniques.
  • MUSC researchers received a $1.68 million National Institutes of Health grant to explore a better treatment for chronic pancreatitis.

In 2015, MUSC was named on of just 30 National Pancreas Foundation Centers across the country, and it’s the only NPF Center in South Carolina.  The NPF recognition is a way for patients with pancreatitis to find the best places to get treatment. MUSC’s digestive disease team also treats pancreatic cancer, which affects about 50,000 Americans each year.
