After living and working at the western end of I-26, Dr. Lockett is excited to be re-joining the MUSC Department of Surgery. This is a form of homecoming for Dr. Lockett who did his undergraduate work in business administration at Furman University, then spent the next eleven years at MUSC as a student, resident, and faculty member. Dr. Lockett has an extremely broad surgical base having practiced general, GI, trauma and oncology surgery at East Tennessee State University for ten years.
He has a strong interest in both health systems management and medical error prevention. He looks forward to educating the next generation of surgeons in the era of work-hour restrictions and technological advances. He has an interest in surgical simulation as a means of training tomorrow’s surgeons. As Chief of Surgery at the VA and Associate Professor at MUSC, he hopes to use his skill and abilities to further strengthen an already outstanding surgical program.
