Narrative Biography: Robert A. Cina, MD
Dr. Robert A. Cina joins the faculty at MUSC as an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the division of Pediatric Surgery. He received his medical degree at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska, where he also was a member of the Alpha-Omega-Alpha honorary society. Subsequently, he completed his internship and residency in General Surgery at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center & Harvard Medical School. During this time, he had a unique opportunity to perform immunology research investigating novel mechanisms of tolerance induction at Massachusetts General Hospital, for which he received several awards.
Dr. Cina completed his Fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at the University of Alabama Medical School and Alabama Children’s Hospital. While in Birmingham, he was exposed to a wide spectrum of advanced minimally invasive techniques, including laparoscopic endorectal pullthrough procedures for Hirschprung Disease, laparoscopic anti-reflux procedures, laparoscopic adrenalectomy and splenectomy, laparoscopic assisted procedures for Inflammatory Bowel Disease, as well as minimal access thoracic surgery.
Dr. Cina is very excited to have the opportunity to teach medical students and residents how to care for one of our most fragile patient populations. He is passionate and committed to providing the best care for his patients and their families.
