David B. Adams, MD, Receives Honored Surgeon Award
The South Carolina Chapter of the American College of Surgeons presented David B. Adams, MD, FACS with the chapter’s Honored Surgeon Award. The award was given during the 2016 South Carolina/North Carolina Chapters of the American College of Surgeons Annual Meeting.
This is the highest honor given by the South Carolina chapter. Dr. Adams was recognized for his leadership and significant contributions to the health, safety and welfare of patients in South Carolina.
Dr. Adams is Professor of Surgery and has directed the MUSC Annual Postgraduate Course in Surgery for 25 years. He has previously served MUSC as Interim Chairman for the Department of Surgery, Head, Section of Gastrointestinal and Laparoscopic Surgery, Co-Director of the Digestive Disease Center, Medical Director, One West Trauma Center; and Program Director in the General Surgery Residency training program.
Dr. Adams’ research interests are focused on gastrointestinal and laparoscopic surgery. He has special interests in the surgical management of chronic pancreatitis. He has published over 100 works and presented over 100 talks related to his clinical interests. His teaching and clinical interests have been recognized with several awards including the Best Clinical Instructor in General Surgery, MUSC Faculty member Alpha Omega Alpha, MUSC Faculty Excellence Award, the Paul H. O’Brien Resident Teaching Award, The Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award, and the MUSC Health Sciences Foundation Outstanding Clinician Award.
