MUSC Sustainability and Recycling was honored to receive the 2016 Annual Recycling Award from the Carolina Recycling Association (CRA) for its Lab Recycling Program.
The award from CRA “honors top performers that advance waste reduction and recycling in the Carolinas”. MUSC’s lab recycling program provides labs with recycling bins and in-person training on how to safely and effectively recycle lab-related plastic, glass, and metal that would otherwise be destined for the landfill. As a result of these efforts, MUSC has seen a 27.5% increase in the tonnage of plastic, glass, and metal recycling and has saved $17,000 annually in hauling and landfill fees. There are an estimated 700 labs on campus and MUSC is actively trying to expand recycling to more of them. 2016 CRA Award Winners Page
