Sustainability & Recycling - Recycle

Recycling is the reprocessing of materials into new products. It generally prevents the waste of potentially useful materials, reduces the consumption of raw materials and reduces energy usage.  It is a key concept of modern waste management. The following items are recycled at MUSC at present.

MUSC Recycles the following items:

MATERIAL		DESCRIPTION	COLLECTION
PAPER		ALL OFFICE PAPER (including CONFIDENTIAL documents) is shredded and recycled. Look for green slotted lids or locked paper consoles near copy machines, printers and mailrooms. To request a paper bin, call 2-4119	WEEKLY click here for schedule
#1,2,3,5 & 7 PLASTIC GLASS BOTTLES ALUMINUM & STEEL CANS		Look for PGS bin:tall blue bin with two holes on the lid in student lounges and break rooms and large black cans in horseshoe. MUHA cafeteria & ART café recycle also	WEEKLY click here for schedule
CARDBOARD & PAPERBOARD		Flatten boxes and place NEXT to your waste container so that Housekeeping can take them to the correct recycling bin.	NIGHTLY
Compact Fluorescent Bulb (CFL)		Call to 2-4119 and ask zone maintenance to collect	call 2-4119 MUHA call 2-5600
PHONE BOOKS		Place old Phone Books NEXT to your paper recycling bin: Not INSIDE	September  to October
BATTERIES		Request a container or use one of the convenient drop-off locations: cafeteria hallway, lobby of Library & IOP	call 2-4119 MUHA call 2-5600
ELECTRONIC WASTE		CD’s, floppy disks, cords, plugs, shredders, calculators, speakers, printers and other electronics (NOT computers) Call for pick up or drop off in the appropriate bin in the News Stand area (across from the cafeteria) and lobby of library & lobby of IOP	call 2-4119 MUHA call 2-5600
MAGAZINES, HARD BACK BOOKS, NEWSPAPER		Items must be kept separate from regular Office Paper- call for pick up when container is full.	call 2-4119 MUHA call 2-5600
