T he most effective way to manage waste and conserve energy is prevent or reduce the amount of waste we generate in the first place. At MUSC, every effort is being made to conserve energy. The first step in this Energy Saving Campaign has been to create awareness of the problem by reminding everyone to Turn Lights OFF. Request stickers for your area here 2 - MUSC has partnered with a company called Ameresco who after auditing the current usage of utilities has made a series of recommendation. The Performance Contract that ensued is being implemented on campus and represents a series of upgrades and improvements to the efficiency of our facilities. REDUCE WASTE - Use Email instead of sending paper documents

- Use remanufactured toner cartidges
- Request that your name be removed from unecessary mail lists (go to GreenDimes.com)
SAVE ENERGY - Turn Lights OFF in unoccupied rooms

- Turn off overhead and desk light when not needed
- Turn off computer overnight and weekends
- Turn off monitor overnight and weekends
- Turn off or unplug all peripherals until ready to use
- Use power strip to switch off coffee pots...
- Set break room refrigerator to 38-42 degrees
- Set your office thermostat to 68 during daytime
- Lower your thermostat to 55 at night or when away
- Turn off Fume Hoods
- Close hood covers when not in use
- Bring a sweater and wear it instead of turning on the space heater.
