CHANGES TO THE AFTER-HOURS EMPLOYEE PARKING PROGRAM
Change: Effective Friday, June 3, the Courtenay Drive Garage will begin being attended by Office of Parking Management (OPM) staff on Saturdays and Sundays as well as Mondays through Fridays. MUSC's two other patient/visitor public facilities have been attended seven days a week for some time. The Courtenay Dr. Garage will now join that schedule.
What is the after-hours parking program: The program provides safe, convenient, and affordable parking services for employees who work evening, night and week-end shifts on a regular or occasional basis. The hours of the program are 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and 24 hours Saturdays, Sundays and certain holidays
Registration: Every employee and student who wishes to park in the after-hours program, even if on weekends only, is required to register with OPM and to display an after-hours hang tag on the vehicle while it is parked in the facility. Registrants need to present their MUSC ID’s and their state vehicle registration certificates (or copy) at the time of registration. Registration takes place at the Office of Parking Management.
How much does it cost: Parking is free. An annual registration fee of $20 is payable at the time of registration for employees who are not already registered in the reserved parking system. The registration fee covers the cost of the hang tag and assists with other operating expenses associated with the privilege of using the garage.
Garage Entry and Exit: All employees registering for after-hours parking in the President Street garage, Rutledge Tower garage or the Courtenay Drive garage will need to provide their employee ID badge at time of registration.
Parking Within the Garage: Employees with an after-hours hang tag may park in any available space in their assigned garage, with attention given to any space or floor which may be identified for a specific purpose, such as handicap parking or patient parking.
Employees who participate in the monthly-contract program for daytime parking in Rutledge Tower, President Street and Courtenay Drive parking garages are paying a monthly fee to park. Employees who use these facilities under the provisions of the after-hours program are asked to be considerate of paying parkers as they arrive in the morning and to promptly vacate the spaces they have occupied during the night.
Late Departure: Departures later than 8:30 a.m. should be the exception rather than the rule. If an employee is required to stay after 8:30, the employee’s supervisor should contact the parking office at 792-3665. When leaving the garage the employee will need to press and release the red call button at the exit gate and give his/her name when the operator answers. The operator will open the gate for exit.
Enforcement: All vehicles parked at all times in the facilities designated for the after-hours program must display the appropriate parking authorization: a decal for that location, an after-hours hang tag or a temporary MUSC permit. Enforcement will take place 24/7.
Pedestrian Access and Safety: The MUSC Department of Public Safety provides safety and security services for all employee parking locations. Access to main hospital buildings from Rutledge Tower garage is from the intersection of Vanderhorst and Rutledge Avenue and can also be made by way of the interior passageways from the pedestrian bridge connecting the garage to Rutledge Tower. From Rutledge Tower, access can be gained to the pedestrian connector and to Children’s and Main.
Parking in Patient Areas: Employees are not authorized to park in patient areas while working unless authorized by OPM. (Note employees may park in patient areas for the length of their appointment or visit when they are themselves a patient or visitor.)
