Office of Insurance Programs - Business Interruption Coverage Summary
The Business Income part of this policy covers the actual loss of business income due to the necessary suspension of operations during a period of restoration.  Business income, as defined in the policy, includes net income (net profit or loss before income taxes) that would have been earned or incurred, as well as continuing normal operating expenses.  The Extra Expense portion of this policy exists to pay any extra expense needed to avoid or minimize the suspension of business, as well as to, if possible, continue operations.  This insurance would cover the extra expense needed to continue operations at the premises where a loss occurred or at a replacement premises or temporary location.
