November 3, 2011 Grant submission: NSF ADVANCE Institutional Transformation grant
WSI contributed significantly to the submission of MUSC's grant application to the National Science Foundation's ADVANCE IT program, which provides funding to develop innovative, sustainable, and transferable approaches that academic institutions can adopt to increase the representation and advancement of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics academic careers. MUSC's application focuses specifically on improving the representation and development of women basic scientists employed at medical schools.
October 18, 2011 Fall Colloquium - "Highlights from the 2011 AAMC Early Career Women Faculty Professional Development Seminar"
Dr. Lauren Ball was selected for the WSI Professional Development Award 2011 and presented her experience to MUSC faculty. This seminar was held in Washington, D.C. in July 2011.

Dr. Cynthia Kenyon, Ph.D - Herbert Boyer Distinguished Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics, University of California at San Francisco - Director of the Hillblom Center for the Biology of Aging at UCSF presented her keynote "Cells and Pathways that Control the Aging of C.elegans", during the MCBP Seminar Series and received the 2011 MUSC Eminent Scholar Award. http://www.musc.edu/catalyst/archive/2011/co10-14scientist.html
June 30, 2011 The John R. Raymond (JRR) Mentoring Fellowship Award
Dr. Jennifer L. Young, MD, MPH, was the first winner of this annual fellowship. A reception was held at Colcock Hall and Dr. Raymond was present. Dr. Young is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. This award provides Dr. Young with a 2-year GYN fellowship funding. The dedicated research time also will allow Young to colloborate with mentor Lucia A. The career-life balance roundtable featured a small, intimate conversation between members of the MUSC women faculty and Dr. Etta Pisano, MUSC Vice President for Medical Affairs and Dean, MUSC College of Medicine. The discussion focused on balancing careers and personal life.
