EMERGENCY ALERT

UPDATE:  September 10, 2017 1000 AM

To the MUSC family:

The latest forecast from the National Weather Service shows no projected models that put the Charleston area in the path of Hurricane Irma. We will continue to plan for low-level tropical storm conditions, including high winds and possible storm surges starting tomorrow morning, and a possible influx of patients from surrounding areas impacted by the hurricane.

All MUSC family members should review the following as it pertains to your role at MUSC:

MUSC UNIVERSITY EMPLOYEES, FACULTY AND STUDENTS

(University employees who support clinical operations, please see section below.)

  • Following Charleston County government's lead, the University remains closed through Tuesday, Sept. 12. All official university business is canceled, including all classes and clinical rotations. Normal operations will resume on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Dental clinics will remain closed until the University reopens.
  • When the campus is closed for potential weather hazards only essential personnel who have an official role are allowed on campus.
  • Students should not attempt to come to campus or access any University buildings (i.e., the Library or Wellness Center) until Sept. 13.

MUSC HEALTH CARE TEAM MEMBERS / UNIVERSITY EMPLOYEES WHO SUPPORT CLINICAL OPERATIONS

  • We are NOT activating Team A today, Sept. 10. As you know, weather can be unpredictable, so we thank you for your patience as we have navigated this uncertainty over the last few days and make adjustments to provide appropriate staffing for patient care.
  • Leaders should assess inpatient staffing and care team members should allow extra time for safe travel on Monday, Sept. 11.
  • Care team members reporting to work on Monday are invited to park in the President Street or Bee Street parking garages, as University shuttles will not be in service on Monday. To gain entry to the garage, call 843-792-4196 upon arrival.
  • Even though the weather outlook is much more favorable, we are still closing clinics, outpatient facilities, after-hour clinics, procedural areas and ambulatory ORs on Monday, September 11. Non-essential and non-clinical care team members should not report to work on Monday, Sept. 11. Care team members have the option to take Paid Time Off (PTO), unpaid leave or can receive advanced PTO for that day if care team members have an insufficient PTO balance. Additional information will follow.
  • CARTA remains on course to run a full service throughout the weekend and is monitoring Monday service. Please check the CARTA website for updates for updates.
  • Some pharmacies in the area remain closed due to storm planning, so please use the UH, Rutledge Tower and ART pharmacies today, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to make sure our patients get their medications after discharge.
  • Clinics, outpatient facilities and after-hour clinics are open today, September 10, for business as usual.
  • The University will remain closed on Tuesday, Sept. 12, but MUSC Health, including MUSCP, is expected to be fully operational with normal staffing that day. University employees who support clinical operations should check in with their supervisors regarding expectations for Sept. 12.
  • MUSCHealth, including MUSCP, will be fully operational with normal staffing on Tuesday, Sept. 12. Parking accommodations and Hagood bus service will also resume normal operation on Tuesday.
